Train Tunnel Network
A subterranean metro-style station system with hostile Tunnel Dwellers, workcart travel, and consistent underground component farming.

Overview #
The Train Tunnel Network, often referred to as the Metro or Underground Stations, is a subterranean monument system that allows fast travel across the map using Low Grade Fuel.
It connects multiple underground stations through rail tunnels and functions separately from the above-ground rail network, though some maps include transition links.
For the full surface-plus-underground transport overview, see Train Rail Network.
General Info #
- Multiple underground stations across the map
- Marked on the map by a white circular icon
- Elevator access to underground platforms
- Requires Low Grade Fuel to operate trains
- Contains hostile NPCs
- Not a safe zone
Layout #
Surface Entrance #
Each station has:
- A marked map icon
- Underground stair access or elevator
- Entry area with abandoned sleeping bags and furniture
After descending via elevator or stairs, the route reaches the main platform area.
Platforms #
Each station contains:
- Train platform
- Barricades across tracks
- Multiple hostile NPCs
- Loot containers
Platforms are connected by long tunnel corridors.
Mid-Tunnel Sections #
Between stations, groups of NPCs patrol the tunnels.
These areas:
- Contain smaller loot clusters
- Have limited cover
- Often spawn groups of three NPCs
Tunnel Dwellers #
Tunnel Dwellers are hostile underground NPCs.
Common traits:
- Equipped with M92 Pistol or M39 Rifle
- Drop components, ammunition, and construction items
- Approximately five per station platform
- Smaller patrol groups between stations
They aggressively engage intruders entering platforms or tunnels.
Underground Train #
The underground train, commonly referred to as the Workcart, is used for fast travel.
Fueling #
- Uses Low Grade Fuel
- Fuel storage located behind cockpit
Controls #
- W: Forward (Low, Medium, High)
- S: Reverse or slow down
- A or D: Left or Right at track splits
Overheating #
Remaining at high speed for too long causes overheating:
- Warning sound
- On-screen WARN indicator
- Failure to reduce speed can result in explosion
Platform Barricades #
Barricades across station tracks can be broken by driving through them with the train.
Loot #
Common loot found underground:
- Military Crates
- Standard Loot Crates
- Tool Boxes
- Scrap
- Components
- Ammunition
- Tools
Loot density is moderate and spread across stations and tunnels.
Strategy and Meta #
The Train Tunnel Network provides:
- Fast underground travel
- Consistent component farming
- Structured PvE encounters
- Reduced exposure compared to surface travel
Risks include:
- Tight corridors
- Limited escape routes
- Overheating train
- Limited cover at platforms
Clearing platforms before moving between stations is recommended.
The Train Tunnel Network is a subterranean travel and farming system connecting underground stations across the map. It offers structured PvE encounters, reliable component loot, and efficient long-distance travel when properly fueled and managed.
