Roadside Monuments
Small roadside junk pile clusters that reliably provide early-game scrap, components, and low-tier loot.

Overview #
Roadside Monuments, commonly referred to as junk piles, are small randomly generated scrap clusters found along roads throughout the map. They respawn periodically and are one of the most consistent early-game sources of components and scrap.
They are not formal monuments but are scattered between larger locations, forming part of the road network that links most major monuments together.
Layout #
Junk piles appear as small heaps of scrap metal and debris beside roads. They typically include:
- 1 to 4 lootable barrels
- Occasionally a single food crate
- Occasionally a large wooden crate
- Toolboxes or component crates in some variations
Single barrels are also commonly found spaced along road edges between scrap piles.
The scrap mound itself cannot be harvested.
Loot #
Roadside junk piles are a primary early wipe resource source and commonly provide:
- Scrap
- Components
- Low-tier items
- Basic tools
- Food (occasional food crate)
Because they respawn regularly, roads can be farmed repeatedly.
Road Network #
Roads connect most major monuments across the map. Along these roads:
- Single barrels appear intermittently
- Scrap piles appear at intervals
- Broken vehicles and roadside debris serve as visual markers
This creates natural farming routes between monuments.
Practical Use #
Road farming is one of the fastest early methods of acquiring scrap and components. Building near roads provides quick access to these resources.
Roads are open and visible from long distances, with continuous movement between monuments.
Bushes, roadside cover, and indirect route loops can reduce exposure when farming.
Roadside junk piles are a reliable early-game source of scrap and components, and form part of the wider road network connecting Rust monuments.
